Movember and prostate cancer

For the official campaign, use Movember’s own website. Read its programme information and fundraising terms to understand what your gift supports. WAN’s independent appeal has a different beneficiary and purpose.

Set a manageable activity, a closing date and a target for contributions. A fundraising target is not a promise that the same amount buys a specific operation or treatment course.

If you choose to support WAN in November, describe your event as an independent fundraiser for World Aid Network. Do not imply endorsement by Movember or use another organisation’s branding as if you were its partner.

Anyone with a prostate can discuss PSA testing with a GP. The test has benefits and limitations: a raised result is not a cancer diagnosis, and testing can lead to further investigations or treatment that may not have been needed.

Read the prostate cancer guide for symptoms, testing and treatment information. Use the private GP discussion planner to prepare questions. Seek advice about symptoms at any age instead of waiting for a campaign or screening invitation.

WHO identifies timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment and supportive care as essential parts of cancer services. WAN’s appeal addresses financial barriers for patients who cannot afford care.

A UK survival percentage cannot be compared fairly with an unspecified group of countries. It also cannot predict how an individual will respond to care. This guide does not use an assumed overseas survival rate or present general statistics as WAN’s own results.

A walk, workplace challenge or moustache fundraiser can make space for conversations about men’s health. Keep participation voluntary and choose an activity that suits the people taking part.

Suggested invitation: ‘We’re organising an independent November fundraiser for World Aid Network’s Cancer Emergency Appeal. Donations support cancer care for patients who cannot afford it in Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia. WAN is separate from the official Movember campaign.’

There is no fixed gift that guarantees a chemotherapy session, scan or operation. Read where your money goes and the appeal’s evidence and reporting information for the programme’s purpose and current reporting position.

An independent fundraiser does not create a prostate-only restricted fund. If a particular restriction matters to you, contact WAN before collecting donations.

A successful payment confirms the donation, not that a named patient has received a particular treatment. Patient care and programme reporting happen separately.
