What is emergency drinking water after a disaster?
Emergency drinking water is what a family can safely swallow in the first days after a flood or quake. Wells are spoiled. Pipes break. People drink what they can find, then disease takes hold. Why do the first 72 hours matter for drinking water?
After a flood or quake, wells spoil and people drink what they can find. The Sphere Handbook sets 15 litres of water per person per day as established practice in an emergency.
