Match funding — make your donation go twice as far

Match funding is the easiest way to double your impact — a second party matches your gift, so the family at the other end receives twice as much, and it costs you nothing more.

What is match funding?

Match funding is when a second party — often your employer or a match-fund partner — matches donations, usually pound for pound, up to a set total. So when you give £20, the charity receives £40. It is one of the simplest ways to double the impact of your gift at no extra cost to you.

The most common form is employer matching: many companies match the donations their staff make, often pound for pound. A surprising number of employees never use it, simply because they do not know it exists — so it is always worth asking your HR team.

The other form is a match-funded appeal, where a company or major donor pledges to match public donations during a set window, up to a limit. Giving during that window means every pound is doubled until the matching pot is used up.

World Aid Network is a UK Charitable Incorporated Organisation with charity registration in progress. Match-funding opportunities will be shared once donations open — register your interest to hear about them.

Frequently asked questions

What is match funding?

Match funding (or matched giving) is when a second party — often an employer or a match-fund partner — agrees to match donations, usually pound for pound, up to a set total. So when you give £20, the charity receives £40. It is one of the simplest ways to double the impact of a donation at no extra cost to you.

What is employer donation matching?

Many employers run a matched-giving scheme that matches the charitable donations their staff make — often pound for pound. If your employer offers this, you simply submit your donation through their scheme and they add an equal amount. It is a quick way to double your gift, and many people do not realise their workplace offers it.

How do match-funded appeals work?

In a match-funded appeal, a company, major donor or fund pledges a pot of money to match public donations during a set period, up to a limit. Every pound given during the appeal is doubled until the matching pot runs out — so giving during a match window makes your donation go twice as far.

How do I get my donation matched?

Two main routes: ask your employer whether they run a donation-matching scheme and give through it, or give during a match-funded appeal when a partner is doubling donations. Both double your impact. You can register your interest with World Aid Network to be told about future match-funding opportunities.
