What is the Emergency Floods and Earthquake Appeal?
This appeal keeps a standing fund so local partners can deliver food, clean water and shelter after floods and earthquakes in Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia. We do not wait to launch a new campaign from scratch while families sleep in the wet.
When the waters rise or the ground shakes, a family can lose everything that keeps them alive before breakfast: the roof over the children’s beds, the well in the yard, the rice that was meant to last the week. They run with what they can carry. Then they wait. That wait is where your donation matters.
Monsoon flooding returns every year. Earthquakes do not send a fundraising calendar. A standing fund means kits can move when a national disaster agency declares an emergency — Pakistan’s NDMA, Indonesia’s BNPB or Malaysia’s NADMA.
You do not have to travel. You do not have to pack a box. The most useful thing you can do tonight is donate. Gifts of any amount contribute towards emergency relief; quantities depend on local quotes and assessed needs.
Why do families need help after floods and earthquakes?
Homes, wells and food stores are destroyed in hours. Children need clean water. Parents need something to cook. Older people need a dry place to sleep. The cameras leave. The need does not.
Pakistan’s monsoon can put millions of people on the move in a bad year. Indonesia’s islands flood and shake. Malaysia’s east coast floods in the northeast monsoon. After a quake, people sleep outside because they are afraid the roof will fall. After a flood, the well is spoiled.
A family that had rice for the week may have nothing by nightfall. Dirty water then brings disease. Hunger follows a ruined harvest. Shelter is how a child sleeps without rain on their face.
Please do not wait for the next monsoon photograph. Give now to the Emergency Floods Appeal so a family already displaced is not left thirsty while the world organises a response.
How can I donate to the emergency floods appeal?
You can give on this page by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Your donation to the Emergency Floods Appeal becomes food, water and shelter. A monthly gift means the next monsoon is not a scramble. Give the amount that feels right for you.
Use the form beside this appeal, or open the donate page and choose emergency relief. Keep this appeal selected. That gift is your donation to the Emergency Floods and Earthquake Appeal.
If you can, give every month. Floods and quakes do not wait for a fundraising drive. A regular gift means partners can keep kits ready. A one-off gift still matters.
If your mosque, church, workplace or friends are collecting, gather what you can and donate it here. Please do not send clothes from the UK unless a partner has asked in writing. Parcels arrive late. Local buying is faster.
Why does one appeal cover floods and earthquakes?
Families need the same first things after both: something to eat, safe water, and a dry place to sleep. Winter then becomes a second threat for people still in tents.
A coastal quake can bring a wave as well as a cracked wall. A flood can last weeks after the rain stops. One appeal for food, water and shelter means trustees can release funds to whichever Object country has the declared emergency.
This appeal is restricted to those three things. It does not rebuild roads or run long-term housing programmes.
| This appeal funds | This appeal does not fund |
|---|---|
| Emergency food after floods or quakes | Long-term farm recovery or school feeding |
| Clean drinking water when wells are spoiled | Permanent city water networks |
| Temporary shelter, tarpaulins, blankets | House reconstruction or new roads |
| Winter warmth for families still displaced | A separate fashion or clothing campaign |
Why does Pakistan’s monsoon need a standing fund?
The monsoon returns. In a catastrophic year, tens of millions of people can be affected and more than a million homes damaged. A standing fund means partners are not starting from zero.
If you want your gift marked for Pakistan specifically, use the Pakistan Floods Appeal. This page is the three-country standing fund. Both buy food, water and shelter through local partners.
Harvests drowned in floodwater become hunger months later. That is why this appeal sits beside the Hunger Crisis Appeal.
What do families need after an earthquake?
Drinking water if a well is spoiled, food if the market cannot open, and a dry place to sleep if they are afraid to go back inside. Aftershocks keep people outdoors. Your gift buys those first, essential things.
If you want your gift marked for Indonesia specifically for emergency relief, use the Indonesia Emergency Appeal. This page covers earthquakes and floods across Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Local partners buy supplies nearby and intend to distribute them to families.
Why is winter a second emergency after a flood or quake?
When cold weather arrives and families are still displaced, this appeal can fund blankets, warm clothing and shelter repair. That is not a separate fashion campaign. It is the same displaced family, later in the year.
The news cycle moves on. The monsoon or the aftershocks do not. Children still sleep on damp ground. Older people still get ill.
What will my donation to the Emergency Floods Appeal provide?
Your donation provides emergency food, clean drinking water and temporary shelter. Gifts of any amount contribute towards emergency relief; quantities depend on local quotes and assessed needs.
Please choose an amount and donate. The amounts below are contributions towards this programme. They are not published partner quotes or guarantees of a specific quantity. What a family receives depends on the country and on what they need that week.
That is the promise of this appeal. You give. We turn your money into help for people who have lost their homes. Please do not leave the page without giving if you are able.

How does my donation reach flood-affected families?
You donate. We hold the gift for this appeal. When a disaster is declared, trustees release funds to local partners. They buy food, water and shelter materials nearby and deliver them.
Buying locally is faster, and it is kinder. A shopkeeper in a damaged town still has a customer. A family does not wait for a container from Europe.
If you want to give in memory of someone, or as a group, write to [email protected] and we will mark the gift for the Emergency Floods Appeal.
How quickly will my donation help after a flood or earthquake?
Card donations are processed straight away. Delivery timing depends on assessed need, access, available funds and partner capacity; no response time is guaranteed. Remote ground can take longer. Your gift still means a family can be reached without waiting for a new fundraising drive.
Money that has already been given can move when the waters rise or the ground shakes.
How can I donate to flood relief from the UK?
You can give on this page by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. From the United Kingdom, a card gift buys food, water and shelter where the disaster is. You do not need to fill a shipping container.
Please do not send clothes, shoes or bottled water from Britain unless a partner has asked for a specific item in writing. Parcels usually arrive late and cost more than buying locally. The kindest thing you can do is donate here.
If you want your gift marked for Indonesia specifically after a disaster in Indonesia, use the Indonesia Emergency Appeal. If you want Pakistan specifically, use the Pakistan Floods Appeal. This page is the standing fund for all three countries.
Can I give monthly to the Emergency Floods Appeal?
Yes — a monthly donation keeps this standing fund ready for the next monsoon or quake. Please set up a regular gift on this page. Even a small monthly amount helps partners keep kits ready. You can also give in memory of someone you love.
Disasters do not follow a fundraising calendar. A regular gift means we can say yes when partners ask for water, food and shelter materials. Please start a monthly gift at the amount that is comfortable for you. You can change it later. If you would rather give once, that gift is welcome too. Donate today.
How is this different from the Indonesia Emergency Appeal?
Indonesia Emergency is the country page for earthquakes and tsunamis there, within its stated programme scope. This appeal is the standing three-country flood and earthquake fund. Both buy food, water and shelter.
You do not need to give twice unless you want to. A gift here can still help Indonesian families after floods or quakes. A gift on the Indonesia page is marked for that country.
Should I send clothes or bottled water from the UK?
Money is more useful, unless a partner has asked for a specific item in writing. Parcels from Britain usually arrive late and cost more than buying locally. A card gift on this page is the fastest way to help.
Local partners know what a family needs that week. A container of unused coats does not.
