What is the Hunger Crisis Appeal?
The Hunger Crisis Appeal raises money for emergency food after disasters in Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia. Please donate today. When floods take a harvest or an earthquake shuts a market, hunger follows. Your gift becomes a parcel of staple food.
A family can lose a house in an afternoon and still be hungry three months later. The rice store is gone. The field is under water. The market cannot open. Children ask for food. That wait is where your donation matters.
Please give to the Hunger Crisis Appeal. This is not a general anti-poverty programme and not an agricultural recovery fund. It is emergency food for families affected by disaster, which is what our charitable Objects allow.

Why does hunger follow a flood or earthquake?
Disaster destroys kitchens, harvests and markets. People who had food last week have none this week. Please donate so a parcel of rice, lentils and oil reaches them. Hunger after a disaster is not a different country. It is the same family, later.
The cameras show water in the street. They rarely show the empty pot six weeks on. A drowned field does not grow a winter crop. A cracked shop does not sell flour. Partners buy staples nearby so a damaged town still has a customer and a family still has a meal.

What food does an emergency parcel contain?
Parcels typically hold staples suited to local cooking: rice, lentils or chickpeas, cooking oil, flour and salt. If cooking is impossible in the first hours, partners may use ready-to-eat rations. Please donate so those staples can be bought.
A standard parcel is designed to sustain a family of five for about three weeks. In a longer crisis, distributions repeat until markets work again. We do not fund school feeding or farm inputs from this appeal.

Why do you buy food locally instead of shipping it from the UK?
Local rice and oil arrive sooner, cost less, and match what people cook. A parcel of tins from Britain usually arrives late. Please donate money on this page. That is how a shopkeeper in a damaged town still has a customer.
Buying nearby is faster, and it is kinder. Please give money rather than food from home unless a partner has asked for a specific item in writing.
Why can children not wait for the next fundraising drive?
A few days without food after a flood is how malnutrition starts. Pregnant women and older people cannot wait either. Please donate so this fund sits ready rather than launching after the news cycle.

The Floods Appeal covers food, water and shelter together. The Hunger Crisis Appeal is restricted to emergency food so donors who want their gift to buy meals can say so. Please donate to the page that matches how you want to help.
